Laksmi & the Poor
Washerwoman
For all who are interested in
Puppetry, Shadow Theatre & Indian culture
Once a year on Divali – which falls on a dark moonless day in November
– people all over India light lamps in windows and doorways to welcome Laksmi, the goddess
of wealth and good fortune, into their homes.
Through Innovative shadow theatre combined with powerful storytelling, this
simple folk story brings home the true meaning of wealth.
Using front projection with a portable
shadow light, the puppeteer manipulates
the puppets and tells the story in
view of the audience.
Intricate, decorated
cut-outs produce clear,
coloured shadow images on
the white
screen.
The performance is suitable for all
except very young children.
