THE
SHADOW HOUSE
“Where there is light, there is also shadow” German proverb.
Shadows are around us most of the time yet we rarely investigate or play with them. The shadow house is a 2 metre cube which provides an environment where young children can explore light, dark and shadows.
Diana guides small groups (approx. 6) for 30 minute sessions to:
· discover, observe and become familiar with their own changing shadows
· try out different materials to see how they block the light, create patterns, coloured shadows or reflections
· play with shadows of objects
Ideal for nursery, reception and Key stage 1 children to cover work from Early Learning Goals through play and interaction with an artist and other children.
A follow up worksheet with visual and language clues is available.
Diana will
arrive 1 hour before the start time – the construction set-up takes 30 minutes
and is best sited on a carpeted area if possible, either in the class, in a spare
classroom or in the hall.
An adult should be present with each group.
For approximately 48 children over one day.
A power point is needed.
